Warning - Don’t make Llywellyn’s mother angry!

January 27th, 2006

Feeling about the same, fever is less frequent so that is an improvement. Going out in the cold is a killer though. *laugh*

On Wednesday my fellow tripped in from work. Literally. I thought it was strange because he is not a clumsy person at all and we notice it since LL and I can trip over a speck of dust. He mentioned he had stubbed his toe at work. Then he took off his sock and WHOA! he had really stubbed it. His toe was badly swollen and literally black and blue. I iced it and then wrapped it before he went off to his meeting. When LL asked what had happened, my fellow said “mom stomped on my foot” and laughed. Well the kidlet took him seriously and went off to school Thursday morning where he informed his teacher and classmates that his mom stomped on his dad’s foot and his toe looked broken. I am sure his teacher is hoping I never get upset with her. *laugh* I told my fellow about this last evening and he said he was not sure which was worse, that LL told such a thing at school or the fact that he actually thought I really could have done that to his dad. *laugh*

My fellow did get his foot checked out and the toe is not broken. It is a lovely purplish red shade now but back to normal size. I taped it before he went off to work this morning. I am sure it must hurt a lot.

Aunt Maud called last evening. I knew she would, she never misses calling on the 26th of January. It is hard to beleive that 14 years have passed since my mom died. LLywellyn wanted to know how I remembered the date and I said you never forget the date your mom dies. He said he hoped I wouldn’t die. I wonder if it is because he does not want to have to remember the date? *laugh*

I am sleeping and resting a lot, not doing much of anything else. What a life of luxury I have! *laugh*

Yay … not *laugh*

For the past few weeks I have been battling some bug and it was winning. Today I saw the doctor and apparently as well as having bronchial asthma, I have strep throat too. So I am the proud owner of new inhalers and antibiotics. I guess that is a valid reason for feeling so wrung out. *laugh* Doctor’s advice “stay quiet, no school, stay out of crowds and stay away from smokers”. My fellow says I am so useless at the moment I couldn’t get any quieter. *laugh*

Not much else to say, I have been pretty unproductive for days now. The kidlet and the fellow are fine and healthy. LL was out skating at school 3 days last week and tomorrow they are going skiing. He is really looking forward to that. My fellow is off to a get together with some old friends tonight. I am going to curl up with a book, a cup of tea and wait out the latest fever. *smile*

Book meme

January 22nd, 2006

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don’t search around and look for the coolest book you can find. Do what’s actually next to you.

Finally, one afternoon, Deborah, for no reason that she knew, got up from her bed and walked the length of the hall to the ward door.

School days

January 11th, 2006

First things first, our little patient is doing extremely well. If not for that silly cone on her head, you would forget she had ever been ill and had a big operation 5 days ago. She in turn was on the way to being very spoiled, wanting to be carried up and down the stairs, wanting to be hand fed her food and being a bit of brat about things like sitting when getting her leash off and on. We however took a hard line and she figured out quickly that the tempting her with food that we did the two days before her surgery was a thing of the past. *laugh* Her incision is healing well and she is feeling so good that she was literally bouncing up the stairs when she was out with my fellow yesterday.

School started again on Monday. We had some new students start but I never really met any of them that day. I asked my math teacher if I could sit in with the B group during my spare so I could come home and check on Susan, since I felt bad leaving her all day so soon after her surgery. He said no problem so I only did a half day. Someone was very glad to see us and get out for a walk at lunchtime.

Yesterday there was no after school care for LL, they were closed for a staff meeting. So his dad picked him up at 1230, brought him to my school and dropped him off and then came home to check Susan. LL was good, he worked on a maze book while I was in class. I love that there is the option to do this if there is no other choice. We could not bring our kids to SFI for any reason whatsoever.

Today the kidlet went swimming with his schoolmates. He had a great time and the swimming lessons paid off, one of the teacher commented on what a good swimmer he is. I did not go to my school, I went instead to Komvux (otherwise known as the centre for adult development). We had a mandatory introduction lecture this morning. First we had a little speech about komvux, then we were introduced to all the staff, finally there was coffee followed by getting logged in to the school’s computer. For the distance course I am taking we had a little meeting before we got our coffee and got our course outline and schedule. The actual course starts tomorrow morning. So now I am going to school in two schools, one in Sigtuna and one in Märsta. *laugh* The distance course will meet 5 times, every third week, for 2 hours. The rest of the time I will be on my own for that one. I think I will just do my studying at my other school, since I go to Sigtuna every day to take the kidlet there anyway.

This is Susan 3 hours after her emergency surgery tonight.

She has been sick since christmas with what we thought was a bladder infection (and she very possibly did have one of those). After 5 days of antibiotics she perked up but then a couple days ago she lost her appetite and was just not her usual bouncy self. We thought we would finish off the pills before we took her back to the vet’s, today being the final day. This morning when we woke up she had peed on the floor in the kitchen. I didn’t get hyper about that but as the day wore on it was apparent that she was leaking urine constantly, she stopped eating, was shaking all the time and was warm to touch. Of course it is a holiday here and so we ended up taking her into Stockholm to an emergency clinic. After examining her, the vet had xrays taken and then informed us that she needed immediate surgery to remove her uterus. She actually gave us 2 choices, surgery or put her to sleep. We chose surgery and they started it at 8 pm. The vet told us straight out that she was a very very sick dog and there was no guarantee she was strong enough to make it through surgery at this point. At 9:30 the receptionist came out and told us that Susan had come through the surgery and was recovering well. A few minutes later the vet came and spoke to us, told us that Susan’s uterus was the size of my fist and a normal one would be the size of my little finger. She had pyometra, something I had never heard of before. She has a large incision and has to wear this lampshade contraption anytime she is unsupervised, until the stitches are out. We have to take her back to the clinic in the morning so they can make sure she is ok post operatively. Both the vet and the nurse who brought her out to us commented on how perky she was once she woke up. I said that’s because she has always been healthy, it helped her to make it through this illness and surgery.

Happy New Year

January 1st, 2006

We had a nice time last evening. Had dinner at my fellow’s parents, watched tv, visited and watched loads of fireworks at midnight. At dinner I had red wine and tried something called svagdricka. It was terrible, tasted like beer and I really dislike beer. *laugh* My fellow’s mom made a resolution that she and I would drink more this year. *laugh* That won’t be to hard, neither of us drink much at all. That said, I had two glasses of wine and a glass of champagne last night, a very unusual occurence. However I felt fine today, so I guess that it was not overdoing it. *laugh*

We slept in since the kidlet spent the night at his grandparents. I made breakfast at noon, but just after I got the bacon cooked the kidlet called and said he wanted to come home. So I put the bacon in the oven on low and got everything ready for omeletes while my fellow drove over and picked up LL. When his omelete and toast were ready, I took the bacon out of the oven and it was just black charcoal. *laugh* Luckily I had lots left and I quickly fried up more before the rest of breakfast got cold. LL had a friend over for a couple hours and then they went out and played in the courtyard with some of the other kids from the complex. Then we headed back to his grandparents for dinner again. We finished off the christmas food and the red wine. LL is spending the night there again and he and farfar are going sledding tomorrow, since his grandfather has the day off.

I haven’t made any resolutions beyond deciding that 2006 will be another good year. *laugh*
