Rest and relaxation

February 16th, 2006

The kidlet is feeling good, has had an easy.

We have had a basically quiet week since his surgery. Friday he was really tired but we did go out and walk to the centrum where he picked up Team Canada. Thank you Meaghan! He also worked a bit on his first kit from here and was really excited about it. So it was a very Canada oriented day. *laugh*

Saturday we had my fellow’s family here for dinner. My fellows walked to the store while I was doing laundry and shopped a bit. Farmor and farfar came bearing pizza and pop, the kidlet got to eat pancakes and drink watered down juice. It was a nice evening with them. We had brownies and ice cream with our coffee and watched postalcodemillionare. My fellow’s little sister had her boyfriend with her, it is the first time he has been here. He is a really nice fellow and fits right in.

Sunday we took the kidlet to Barnens Hus. We were looking for a stand for his Stiga table hockey game but they didn’t have any. We stopped at ÖoB as well and then went home because the kidlet was getting tired. He really enjoyed his outing though and they stressed at the hospital that we should get him out in the fresh air every day.

Monday we went to the library and he got to use his new library card for the very first time. How exciting it was to pick out books and even a movie and then borrow them all by himself. Pappa stopped by school in the morning and came home with all the kidlets schoolwork for this week. He dived into his math book and his dad chuckled thinking about Lisa Simpson and her emergency school closed kit.

Tuesday we headed into Stockholm and met up with Kirsty, Carolyn, Marie, Lars-Göran, Martin and the famous Lambi. Kirsty was in Stockholm for a few days and it was such a treat to finally meet her in person. It was wonderful to see Caroline, Marie, L-G and Lambi again and to meet Martin, although I am sure we have met previously somewhere. We had lunch at a cosy little place in Gamla Stan. LL weathered the trip well, was good in the restaurant and had great fun in the piles of snow in Stortorget. After we ate and visited lots, we walked back to Sergels Torg where the group all went off in different directions. I wish we could have had a few more hours to chat but instead we will have to look forward to another get together down the road. LL and I made a quick trip to BR Leksaker where he got a small Bosse Bulldog game and we got my fellow a Puppy, a tamagochi type game. That was my “valentine” gifts to them. How romantic. *laugh* We did stop at a bakery and picked up 4 little heart shaped pastries as well. LL was really tired on the trip home and actually slept a bit on the bus. We both had a fun day though and no throat pain, even though it was his first day with no pain sedation at all. L-G posted some pictures of the day here.

Yesterday I did more laundry and we dropped his movie back to the library. We both did schoolwork and we watched Brother Bear. After I got LL tucked in bed I was feeling really chilled and surprise, I was running a fever again. So I curled into bed just after 9 pm and felt fine this morning. Today we took the bus to my school where I had to get a paper stamped for CSN and then we stopped at Komvux where they stamped it as well. Now we are home relaxing, the kidlet had hot chocolate and watched a tape of old Porky Pig cartoons. The secretary at my school told me that my swedish teacher is out sick with this cold that is knocking the stuffing out of everyone around here. A classmate is also home with pneumonia. So I am thanking my stars that I am home and resting and healing.

Tomorrow we are going back for his post op follow up at Danderyd. He has asked if we can fika at the same little restaurant as Tuesday, so we will do that after
his appointment.

One thing I have been slowly working at this week is moving 5 years worth of lj entries to our server. I have them downloaded to my computer in CSV format but got to thinking it would be good to have them on the server since we have wordpress installed there. I have downloaded them all in XML format and am uploading to the server one month at a time. I have to check and edit every entry since lj specific tags don’t work off lj. *laugh* I have been reading funny little tidbits from when he was 2, to the kidlet and he has been loving it.

Good kid

The kidlet had surgery this morning. We got a call Tuesday afternoon that there was a cancellation and he could go in for his tonsillectomy and nasal polyp removal this morning at 0730. I told him on Tuesday and the poor little guy was so stressed over the idea of an operation that he was awake most of the night Tuesday, throwing up. So we were home Wednesday, taking it easy and working on not being so scared. He slept some Wednesday night but at one point around 0300 I woke to hear him chatting with pappa. *laugh*

All went well this morning. We were at Danderyd for 0730, saw the surgeon, got settled into the day surgery unit and then waited for his turn. I went with to the operating room and stayed with him until he was asleep. It was easier for me than for my fellow, who waited out in the waiting area (hallway outside of daystay), since only one parent could be with in the daystay unit. The first kidlet came back from her surgery before LL went. She woke and screamed and sobbed, but soon quieted. The second came back while he was in the OR. Thank goodness he wasn’t there then, he had already been spooked by the first one. The second little girl was hysterical and kept screeching that her throat hurt and she wanted her ice cream NOW!!! At one point she even kicked the nurse. Eventually they did get her calmed as well. I was reminded of why I never cared for working recovery and daystay. *laugh*

Llywellyn came back sleeping, stayed asleep for 30 minutes, woke up, smiled, asked if it was ice cream time yet and when I said he had to sleep at least another 30 minutes, he went back to sleep. I kept thinking how lucky we were that he was older and could understand why he had to have the oxygen and the IV and so didn’t get upset by them. About 1300 he woke up and made a mad wobbly dash to the bathroom and then while he ate ice cream and watched a movie I went out to pappa and we went and got prescriptions filled. Pappa replaced me then and I waited in the hallway, reading a wealth of swedish magazines. The nurse had said the doctor would do a last check of the kidlet at 1530 and by then all the other kids had left, so I skirted the one parent rule and went in to find the nurse removing his IV. Once we saw the doctor again, we headed home. My fellow went to bed right after we ate, the kidlet went after his pain medication at 2000. I stayed up until now because he needed more medicine at midnight. He has to be home from school for 10 days, but we can go out as long as we avoid people who are sick and crowds where he might pick up a virus.
